"Music acts like a magic key, to which the most tightly closed heart opens." - Maria von Trapp

Karen Marguth

San Francisco Bay Area vocalist Karen Marguth is one of the most acclaimed vocal jazz artists to emerge in the 2000s. An independent musician, she has released six albums as a leader, two of which have been listed in DownBeat’s annual Best of the Year issue, and one which received a rare four-and-a-half stars.
Born in Minneapolis and raised in the Bay Area, Karen's background includes all things theatrical: choreography, directing and performing in regional theater and international touring shows, voice-overs, studio work, composing, writing lyrics, and hosting a weekly radio program.  Named "one of the finest American jazz vocalists" by Jazz Times, she continues to quietly produce albums that receive international acclaim while holding down a day-job as an educator. She has served in public schools as a classroom teacher, an instructional coach for the arts and literacy, and as a consultant for the National Writing Project and the International Baccalaureate Organization.
